I Pre-Ordered my iPad. Have you?

I pulled the trigger Friday on my iPad pre-order.  I’ve been pretty quiet about the iPad.  It’s something that I’m not entirely sure will fit into my computing life, but I definitely see it as a solution that is worth a try.  As a photographer it has awesome potential.  As far as I am concerned, how awesome the iPad will be for photographers will only be limited by how creative developers get with iPad specific apps.  Keep reading if you would like more of my pontification on the subject.

So, what do I plan to use my iPad for?  Quite frankly, I have no idea.  It has an eReader built in.  I might read a few books on it, but more than likely I’ll use if more like a netbook.  Something that is easy to tote around the house, but application specific and less bulky than the cheapo keyboarded counterparts.  I’m hoping that either Google creates an awesome iPad specific webpage for their Reader or that someone comes up with an awesome app that does the same thing.  I would love a “better” way to dig through my RSS content while hanging with the family.  The same can be said for any web page that I frequent.

As far as photographers are concerned, this should be a fantastic presentation device for clients.  I’m hoping that someone smarter than I puts together a great portfolio application for photographers to use when working with clients.  I know when I’m presenting my services to a client that the last thing I like to do is whip out a laptop or bulky album.  I have enjoyed using my iPhone for this purpose, but the iPad seems like such a better solution if for nothing other than it’s size.

All in all, I could hate the iPad.  I could find that it’s completely useless in my digital life and I loath the day I decided to shell out early adopter cash.  On the other hand, how will I know if I don’t try it?  I know that it will not replace my iPhone, but it might every well replace my MacBook in certain situations.  Once it arrives and I’ve played around with it sufficiently then I’ll be sure to give you an update.
